What the Renton Station Won’t Take in the Garbage

Some items are banned from the garbage pit, need a separate recycling or hazardous-waste area, or aren’t accepted at all. Sort these out before you go — or hand the whole pile to us and skip the sorting:

Getting There

Directions & What to Expect

The Renton Recycling & Transfer Station sits just off NE 4th St, a few minutes east of downtown Renton and the I-405 corridor. Here’s how a self-haul trip actually goes:

Secure your load

Tie down and cover everything before you leave. King County charges a $25 fee for any load that arrives unsecured — a loose tarp can cost you.

Weigh in, then dump

You’re charged by weight, with a $40.25 minimum. Staff direct you to the tipping floor; you unload your own vehicle by hand.

Mind the clock & the line

Weekends and late afternoons back up. If your load is over 25 ft of vehicle-plus-trailer, the Renton station can’t take you — you’d be rerouted.

Do the Math

What a DIY Dump Run Actually Costs

The transfer-station fee is only part of the bill. Add up the truck you don’t own, the gas, the fee, the possible unsecured-load charge, and your Saturday standing in line — and the “free” dump run isn’t. Here’s the honest comparison:

✗ The DIY Renton dump run

  • $40.25 King County minimum — more by weight
  • +$25 if your load isn’t tarped and secured
  • Truck or trailer rental + gas (if you don’t own one)
  • You load it, drive it, unload it by hand
  • Your Saturday morning — and the weekend line

✓ The 99 easy button

  • $99 minimum, all-in — approved before we lift anything
  • Labor, transport & disposal always included
  • We do every bit of the lifting and loading
  • Reusables donated, metal & e-waste recycled
  • Same-day and next-day windows across the Valley
$99 minimum • free on-site or text-a-photo assessment • no hidden fees

Where It Goes

We Don’t Just Dump It

A trip to the Renton station means everything goes in one pit. We work differently: reusable furniture and household goods go to charitable partners for a second life, appliances and metal go to recyclers, and e-waste goes to certified electronics recyclers. Because we sort loads right on the truck, only what genuinely can’t be reused or recycled reaches the transfer station.

That’s the part a self-haul trip can’t do for you — see our eco-friendly practices »

Questions

Renton Dump FAQ

How much does it cost to dump at the Renton transfer station?
King County charges a $40.25 minimum per trip, then by weight at $243.38 per ton for self-haul garbage (effective Jan 1, 2026). Rates change periodically, so confirm current fees on the King County disposal-fees page. Prefer to skip it? We haul for a $99 minimum, all-in.
Do I have to cover my load?
Yes. King County adds a $25 fee for any load that arrives unsecured or untarped, per King County Code 10.12.040. Tie down and cover everything before you leave — or let us load and haul it so it’s not your problem.
What are the Renton transfer station hours?
Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 5:00 pm; Saturday and Sunday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. Weekends and late afternoons are the busiest — expect a line.
What won’t the Renton station take?
Not accepted in the garbage: commercial construction/demolition loads, C&D debris in dump-bed vehicles or trailers, cardboard, scrap metal, yard waste, clean wood, asbestos, computers and monitors, mercury-containing fluorescent bulbs and tubes, and hazardous waste. We handle appliances, e-waste, metal, and mixed loads and route each to the right place.
Is it cheaper to haul it myself or hire 99 Junk Removal?
For a small single item it can be close, but once you add truck rental, gas, the $40.25 minimum, a possible $25 unsecured-load fee, and your time loading and waiting in line, our $99-minimum full-service haul is usually the better deal — and we do all the lifting. Text a photo for a firm quote.
