⚠️ Two King County fees that catch people out: there’s a $40.25 minimum just to pull in with garbage (2026), and a separate $25 unsecured-load fee if your load isn’t tied down or covered — Washington law requires you to secure it. Plan for both before you add up truck rental and gas.

Where It Goes

We Sort First, Dump Last

When you haul it yourself, everything goes in one pile to the transfer station. We work it the other way: reusable furniture and household goods go to charitable partners, metal and appliances go to recyclers, and e-waste goes to certified electronics recyclers. Only what genuinely can’t be reused or recycled ends up at the transfer station — and because we sort loads right on the truck, that’s a lot less than you’d expect.

It keeps usable goods in the South Sound donation network and cuts what reaches the landfill. See our eco-friendly practices »

Questions

South Sound Dump FAQ

How much does it cost to dump at a King County transfer station?
As of 2026, King County charges a $40.25 minimum for self-haul garbage and $243.38 per ton above the minimum. There’s also a $25 fee for any unsecured load. Rates are the same at Renton, Bow Lake, and Factoria. Always confirm current rates on the King County disposal-fees page.
Do I have to cover or tie down my load?
Yes. Washington law requires loads to be secured, and King County charges a $25 unsecured-load fee if yours isn’t strapped and covered. A tarp and a couple of straps save you the fee — and keep debris off the highway.
What won’t the transfer station take?
In the regular garbage, King County stations like Renton won’t take commercial construction & demolition loads, construction debris in dump-bed vehicles or trailers, cardboard, scrap metal, yard waste, clean wood, asbestos, computers/monitors, mercury-containing fluorescent tubes, or hazardous waste — several of those go in separate recycling or hazardous-waste areas instead. Rules vary by facility, so check the station’s page before you load up.
Which transfer station is closest to me?
Renton → Renton Recycling & Transfer Station (3021 NE 4th St). Kent, SeaTac & Tukwila → Bow Lake (18800 Orillia Rd S, Tukwila). Bellevue/Eastside → Factoria (13800 SE 32nd St). Tacoma → Tacoma Recovery & Transfer Center (3510 S Mullen St). Fife/Puyallup & Pierce County → LRI Hidden Valley (17925 Meridian St E, Puyallup). See the table above for hours and fees.
Is it cheaper to haul it myself or hire 99 Junk Removal?
For one truckload of loose garbage you’re comfortable loading, a self-haul trip can be cheaper on paper — the King County minimum is $40.25. But once you add a truck or trailer rental, gas, the possible $25 unsecured-load fee, and a Saturday morning of lifting and driving, hiring out often wins for heavy, bulky, or awkward loads. Our $99 minimum is all-in: we bring the truck and crew, do all the lifting, and handle the disposal — text a photo and we’ll give you a firm price.
