Before You Go

## Making the Dump Run Yourself

If you're hauling it yourself, a few things save time and money at S Mullen St:

- **Cover and tie down your load.** An open, unsecured load can draw an extra fee at transfer stations — and it's the law on the way there.
- **Weekends and late afternoons are busiest.** Mid-morning on a weekday is the shortest line.
- **Separate recycling and yard waste.** Those go to different areas and can save you money.
- **Know what they won't take:** no liquids, wet paint, chemicals, asbestos, or hazardous waste in the garbage — take those to the hazardous waste facility on site (Friday to Monday only), or have us take paint for $10 a gallon.

Tacoma homeowners

## Call-2-Haul: Tacoma's free bulky pickup

If your name is on a City of Tacoma garbage bill, you get two curbside pickups (or self-haul trips) a year at no extra charge.

What the city takes

- Up to 3 large items: couches, mattresses, fridges, stoves, washers, water heaters
- Up to 15 boxes or bags of smaller stuff
- Over that, it counts as two pickups

Not taken: household garbage, yard waste, tires, hazardous waste, construction debris.

How to book

Call (253) 573-2468 or use your MyTPU account. Slots can book up to three weeks out, and summer and the end of the year fill fastest. Apartments and businesses pay $115 a pickup.

The city crew picks up at the curb. If it's still in the basement or you need it gone this week, [we carry it out](https://99junkremoval.com/areas-we-serve/tacoma-washington-junk-pick-removal/).

Checked Nov 1, 2026 on the City of Tacoma [Call-2-Haul page](https://tacoma.gov/government/departments/environmental-services/solid-waste/call-2-haul/).

Do the Math

## Haul It Yourself, or Let Us Do It?

For a couple of bags, the dump run is cheap and easy. But for a real cleanout — a garage, a move-out, heavy furniture — the "cheap" trip adds up fast once you count the loading, the weight-based fees, the gas, and your Saturday. Here's the honest comparison.

### ✗ The DIY Dump Run

- You load every heavy piece yourself — twice (into the truck, then out at the station)
- You rent or borrow a truck if yours won't fit it
- Weight-based fees climb with each 100 lbs over the minimum
- Gas, the drive to S Mullen St, and the line — often more than one trip

### ✓ The 99 Way

- You point; our crew does all the lifting and loading
- One firm, all-in price — $99 minimum, approved before we start
- Labor, transport, and disposal are all included — no per-pound surprises
- We sort for donation and recycling, then sweep up before we leave

$99 minimum - we load it - one price, no per-pound math
